Obituary for Richard Hamm

Mr. Richard Gary Hamm, 66, of Stearns, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Richard was born October 19, 1951 in Somerset, Kentucky to Marie Johnson-Worley. Her middle child, Richard has an older sister, Linda (Hamm) Duncan of Stearns, Kentucky and a younger sister, Shonna (Worley) Whitehead of Hilltop, Kentucky.

Richard met his lifelong companion, Judith Carol Ball and was married on April 2, 1974. For over 44 years, Judi was by his side giving him two sons, Jeremy (40) of Ferguson, Kentucky and Christopher (35) of Winchester, Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, Judi. , his son, Jeremy, daughter-in-law, Ashley, and granddaughter, Penelope, his son, Christopher, and daughter-in-law, Rachel. Both of his sisters and countless family members and friends.

Preceding him in death is his mother, and his grandfather, William “Poppy” Johnson, who was a significant influence in Richard's young life.

Richard was a lifelong musician, playing bass, guitar, keyboards, and drums. He primarily played country music and rock and roll from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. Music was his passion. Richard worked as a staff musician at Tombstone Junction during the late 1970’s backing major country music acts on a weekly basis. Richard began taking photographs professionally and opened Pretty Pictures Photography located in Stearns, Kentucky. For over 30 years, he was a professional photographer. He also drove a school bus for the McCreary County Board of Education for 28 years. After retirement, Richard spent his time with his family and friends.

Richard was a member of the Whitley City Church of Christ where he was saved and baptized in 2016. He spent the last years of his life studying the word of God and witnessing to all he met.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Noah Duncan and Bro. David Ball officiating. Burial was in the Stearns Cemetery.
